I’m a second year grower with a couple of basic questions. My plant (384.5 Terry) is not super huge. Currently a 14 ft main with 10-12 ft first and second secondaries. Ready to pollinate soon. There is one root system at the stump, not like an AG with rooted nodes so I’m not sure how to treat it as such when I set a fruit.

Ideally, what secondary would would you prefer? On a first secondary or farther up the main like 12 feet out on a secondary?
Also, do you terminate all growth after your fruit is established? Similar to a tomato plant where you want to grow one large tomato? Thank you.

I like a secondary far out on the main within a few nodes of the main not a secondary in the back of the plant.Theyre finicky on setting so you may not get lots of choices.

Just my opinion.....Yes terminate the Main about 5-8 ft after the BG pollination is set on the secondary vine. Then make the secondary that the Bushel Gourd was set on, the new main and let it grow. That way all the nutrient flow is going through the same vine as the bushel gourd. Should help it grow

Thank you for the advice. After only a few females available and many nights, I have one pollinated 15 ft out on the first secondary and another 16 ft down the main on the first node on a secondary. Both are about one week old and the size of a plum. This one off the main sounds like it’s in the optimum location. I’ll train that secondary into a new main. Thank you.
