Years ago I made a marrow chart. It became obvious back then that OTT does not work with marrows. Today I looked at the new data that came in through the GPC the past few years and come to the conclusion that OTT still does not even give an indication of the correct weight.
Here are some examples:
A 44 lb marrow can have an OTT anywhere between 133" and 147".
An OTT of 147" can become a marrow anywhere between 40 and 70 lbs.

For this reason I made a chart back in 2010 which discerned between short, long and medium marrows and only measured SS and EE. Basically I had to make 3 different charts and I think it might be too complicated for some growers as you first have to determine the length to width ratio before you can find out which chart to use.

For marrows with an OTT of about 130 to 199 inches, you can simply drop the 1 off your inches and get an approximate weight. So a marrow with an OTT of 152" will weigh around 52 lbs. Or just pick it up a put a scale underneath it.

Oops, it changed my calculation should be Volume = Length x Pi x r squared.

The problem is the radius. Marrows have a somewhat elliptical shape, but not consistantly. I have had some that are close to cylindrical but also some that taper off to almost nothing. Then there are the crooked ones. The size of the cavity can be quite different as well.

Tbh I don't measure any of mine or track growth rates at all anymore, I just leave them to do there thing. Don't see the point in getting too excited until weigh off day with these as lost so many big ones over the years!

I did try Brad's charts this year for the first time and although my marrows were not particularly tapered or curved it did not prove very accurate. Mark is right about not getting your hopes up. Mine split and weighed very light to the chart.
