Congratulations on the HD. You wouldn't have had to go so far to get it, but thanks for leaving Minn. open for us. PS why did you leave the stem on?

Congratulations Bob. I saw how nice it looked in your patch from you diary and thought you would do well in the HD competition.

Very nice. Never had any doubt about that one... yours has to be one of the most consistent seeds out there.

Congrats Bob on that Howard Dill Award winner! You broke your personal best by over 100 lbs as well. Was that pumpkin self pollinated?

Thanks Larry and all. I had a great time. I just about did not get the HD award. Someone told me the story. One of the organizers of the pumpkin festival (a non grower) wanted to award it to a 100 pound pumpkin since I took the second place prize. Fortunately another organizer explained to her that the HD award was not a consolation prize for someone that did not win a cash award. It was for the prettiest with no qualifications. I think mine was definitely the crowd favorite. I saw many pictures being taken. This one will be at stillwater but I have doubts about my chances there. The deformed 5th lobe gives it less than ideal shape and it has battle marks from the last week. I think there should be one there that is more ideal. It was a good trip, visiting my college town, chatting with old friends and winning enough to cover the expense of the trip. Worth the many of hours of driving.
Brandon..the 1109 is not perfectly consistent yet...I liked the color of the 555 Haan a bit better than my 1211. Both orange and both HD but it might take another 5-6 generations of selfed to really get it consistent to my ideal. I wish the 555 seeds had not been lost. Next time I grow orange will have to choose...1109 again or the 1211...

Yes, doug, the 1211 is 1109 Borgers 2016 x self. I am hoping to see what your 1109 looks like next weekend. I know you didn't self yours though. Hoping to see some pretty ones in Minnesota next weekend.

Don't sell the 1211 short. Keeping a good shape as they get larger isn't going to be easy. Do you think having an even number lobe fruit has a better chance of being more symmetrical?
