Does the lumpy look (which seem to be very heritable) bother anyone? I think I'd prefer a more smooth& plump look. I am thinking Clementz or Borgers... since I'm gonna let everyone else try the hot new Gantner seed.

wondering... what is your preference about skin texture? Can't beat the color though huh:

Every one of those ripples, bulges and full-length lobes equals more WEIGHT as far as I'm concerned, and I'll just have to be happy with whatever color my 993.2s decide to put out---also thinking of bringing out the 218 Sandercock
for some EPIC orange instillment---to ME, a pumpkin looks like a radial airplane engine...fascinating, no matter what! eg

They are all beautiful to me . It is the color and gloss that really makes me appreciate them. Ribs, or no ribs, bumps or no bumps, Calais dots or no Calais dots, blobby or perfectly shaped. As long as they are orange I see beauty.

I have grown lots of progeny seeds of the 1059 and some were smooth and some were lumpy. I like either, lumpy has more character, smooth is a flawless look.

I grew several 1059s both produced beautiful nicely shaped fruit, no lumpies here.

Pumpkinpal... big warts that would be my first choice for sure. Warts are cool. Perhaps I should call it rippled, but that might get confused with the concentric rings caused by periods of restricted growth. Which is a water or nutritional adequacy issue. To be clear, I am talking about shallow bumps everywhere that fall short of warts. Anyhow, interesting to read the comments on this.

One final comment from me:

We had equally orange pumpkins last year that showed, for me anyhow, that the lumpy vs smooth trait is a real. I now believe it is genetic, and it seems to be dominant. I grew a lumpy x smooth seed and it turned out lumpy. It should be 50/50 now because I crossed it to a smooth one again. Anyhow, at the end of the day it’s not a major issue, it just yet another little thing to consider. It’s interesting, but it’s not necessarily important.

Smooth?? I guess that was a joke... That’s a cool look. I guess I wouldn’t complain. It’s lumps and bumps if you’re trying to scare people on Halloween and it’s dimples if you’re trying to win the HD award.

1059 can be lumpy but great reddish orange color. Here is our 907 (1059 x self) and some of the identical pumpkins it produced.

Oh, that's OK, we all wanted to see a pretty 4-lober on the 1016 Daletas anyway---watch out for requests a-plenty; that cross is pretty hot on-paper, lol---FUNNY>>>i was looking at the errant 4-lober and realized i may HAVE those seeds from Martin Reiss back in the day---every year i try to sprout a few seeds from that collection, but none of them ever have. i'll try again. Grew the 907 last year..late planting..called it my problem child...3 kins 150-250 lbs on secondaries.. all smooth skinned dark red/orange..will plant again this year..hoping for some ribs!! probably half my patch will have 1059 genetics..10 in my personal patch 10-15 others at a friends farm..beauty is in the eye of the beholder..today is Sunday right?
