I was thinking of making this cross and growing it for seeds this season to try to add weight to HDA pumpkins. A previous post mention trying it. Thoughts?

It is worth a try. I have selfed 359 Foss and selfed 2118 Jutras seeds. Might try that cross.

The Jutras likes to put a hint of cream/ opaque. Honestly would go with the 1561 reeb or 1464 brown or similar... orange that has larger genetics... if you want specific genetics for both size and color then make sure you start with those genetics its easy to get optomistic. In reality, it will be hard to weed out genetics you dont want, later.

It is all a crap shoot. Take the 673 Engel which is a 1200 Engel x 1374 Engel. The combination of these two lost the Engel orange. When I had the pumpkin patch. I would plant a red warty x ag cross. It was a fifty percent chance you got a nice red orange pumpkin.

Wiley - Things to consider: 2118 should increase size. Whatever color of red or orange that is in the 1211 is all you will get. At this time there are no known red/orange genes that are recessive to green so the 2118 won't add a darker red. Depending on which 2118 seed you plant you could be adding more white or lighter color to the cross since we have not seen an extremely dark one yet. Shape might be a consideration.
I'd love to see you planting a squash but I think the results from the first generation cross will be disappointing for a HD.
There are 2 known red genes in the maximas. One is dominate to most colors the other recessive except dominate to blue green and gray.

Just remember that making a cross is easy. Convincing people to plant the seeds is not. Be prepared to have to lead by example the first year or two out.

wile... A cross that you might consider would be 2118 Jutras x 2150 Skinner. WR squash x WR pumpkin genes... I would trade to you either/both the 2150 or 2118 if you want to make a trade. Not sure this cross has been made. Probably would be fugly...

Cindy Tobeck tried that and it turned into a deformed pumpkin that she culled.
