Time of the year to see what the orange growers are thinking for 2021. What non 2020 seed and what 2021 seed are you looking at. My non 2020 is the 1916 Barron- by no means a guaranteed orange but produced my personal best orange in 2016 and ready to try it again. Really don’t know enough about 2020 orange seeds yet to make a pick. I sure wish growers would put pictures on pumpkin fanatics. Easier to look there than go through everyone’s diaries. Also hoping to get some ideas from here. Have to get ready. Auctions start this weekend

My 817 is the orangest I have seen at that old. It was 110 days old when I harvested it and oranger than my 511 at 85 days old. Both are on pumpkin fanatic and this sight.

The mother of my 817 is from a 2016 seed. It was the 1718 Ceja. The cross is 1317 Clementz X 2230 wallace. It looked identical to mine. I would keep my eye open for it. Super orange and agressive grower for 4 years old. The key to getting orange out of it is selfing.

When you state your seeds. Explain why and the Genetics. I have one more 359 Foss 2013 Left. It is a 1048 Engel 2012 x 2009 Wallace. This cross has produced several Howard Dill Awards. It produced the 1374 Engel which made a name for itself

Also planning on growing the 707 Ressel. It has all of these genetics: 1317 Clementz, 1059 Vincent/McGill, 811 Gerhardt and 1143 Engel. What a combo!

I'm torn between growing my HD winning 1025 Bierle (1810 Werner X self) to prove my own seed and compete in next year's WGPG contests and the 2283 Barlow / Jacobus since both the 2261 and 2114 had decent color.

2350 Gienger seems like an obvious one to pock up at an auction. The Patons were above average on color, too. I think they were all sufficiently orange to be worthy of consideration, except their Daletas. The 1501 Vanderweilen seems like it should be the top $ seed for big orange growers.

I'm thinking of trying to find an 840 Young. It produced red for me years ago.
It's the 777 young x 1059 Vincent McGill. The 777 is the 993 Vincent McGill x the 1059 VMG. The 993 produced the 1059 VMG.
I'm obviously a 1059 fan.

I’m the same as you Smallmouth. Old Rookie graciously gave me a plant (1059 x 1610 Lieber) two years ago when all my seed starting failed. It had the most perfect shape and color even though it was only ~500lbs. Now I have 1059’s grandma to cross back in. I’m waiting until my soil is at where I want it, so maybe next year.

WoW what a group of orange. I probably would grow a 707 Ressel if I had one. I was a big fan of the Vincent/McGill and now the Engel, Foss Alits lines. It nice to see all the orange.

It’s been two months since my original post and the list of orange people posted is very impressive. A lot of really nice oranges are going to place second third or fourth at weighoffs for the HD award with all of the seeds being considered. I have researched the 2020 seeds better and my top choice is the 1552 Young. A almost guaranteed orange with size potential. There are so many great new seeds and so many great older seeds selecting a couple ( or even in my case several) is a huge task. Your responses to the above post makes it easier. Thank you everyone

Joe, are you growing your 742 from a few years ago? If not, you should consider it. I believe it’s a hidden gem amongst a sea of orange.
