Was noticing that a couple of orange genetics plants we are trying are starting out a bit smaller than their big ugly cousins. Is this normal? I've had some large and vigorous orange kin plants in the past and only one that didnt quite measure up. Have any orange growers noticed a two tier difference in stature between their orange lineage plants vs the normal big-lineage plants?

I've got 3 1385 Howell/Jolivettes happening and each one has been a bit different in sprouting vigor - the third had the biggest cotyledons and took very little time to become a contender but the first two were the opposite; They all look the same, now. My 777 Young (!!!) was and is the itsy-bitsyest of all my seedlings and yet its kind produced that fantastic 1048 Engel. All that said, my 2003 Haist in '20 was a BEAST by default from the get-go and produced my biggest fruit in the long run. Summary: It's not the car that wins but the driver, but it must be nice to have a car that CAN win easily. eg

Yes I wont get the highest level results. I wonder if under approximately the same care, the less robust genetics might yield 400 lb pumpkin and the more robust genetics might yield a 600 lb pumpkin. We'll see. My guess: I think this will be the case.

Cot or leaf size has nothing to do with the size pumpkin it will produce. Just like weight or seed size. It is the genetics behind the plant

I'm just curious. I'm not jumping to any conclusions quite yet. I did get some impressive cots on a couple where I chose to plant the heaviest seeds. Are those seeds genetically different? I am not planting them to win because Im not a top level grower but I am planting them to observe and maybe learn something.

Fyi the 1725 Harp was described as a large stature plant. The 1625 Gantner on the other hand has some smaller stature genetics in it, at least according to one grower. Im not sure if any of the smaller stature have made their way into the 2K or 2500 K pumpkins except maybe as recessive genes... one grower might have been Mendi I think said he had one with smaller vines that still performed well. Sorry my brain might just be scrambled eggs on that one but one grower thought the small vines were perfectly ok for making very big pumpkins.
