I dont remember the circumference. It was not a record. I think it maxed out the tape measure so nearly 8 ft diameter? The record maple tree for Washington is 11 ft diameter or something but in terms of board feet of lumber I think this tree might have been bigger. Not sure if its still standing... I dont think the new property owner cared much about the trees.

Seems like a fun winter project, I’ve got a tree in mind be a few days before I can measure though.

Big trees... are (probably!) an indication of good soil nutrients (...silicates?) AND very good drainage. To become the biggest, they have had to be disease free (this probably means unstressed) as well as have a high growth rate... for many years.
