They all work in my experience. Some generate more heat than others. Sodium hps-- I was even worried it would melt the plastic above it. On the flipside LEDs are so efficiebt they will hardly even keep the frost off. They dont handle moisture well though so get one rated for outdoor use and water. I think outdoor security lights are basically the same thing, but they might be cheaper than something advertised as a grow light.
