I lived in a similar area, north of Santa Barbara, and I never felt afaid of a fire there. But I guess a person could live in Florida and not be afraid of a hurricane. But then one day it just happens.

Its pretty shocking. I guess excessive wind speed and low humidty and the flammability of the structures were the main factors. All the green lawns, green shrubs, and no evidence of a hot canopy fire in the trees, hence I dont really see any other factors... The stuff we're taught about "creating a defensible space" doesnt even seem to apply here. So, its got me thinking like, wtf. (Kids, that stands for wind-thrown-fires, ok?)

It's devastation out here. I've had a few friend with no house to go back too.
Such a terrible tragedy. It was the perfect environment, the 80 to 90 mph started up and the houses started burning like match sticks,,, one after another... So sad:(
This is 20 minutes from my house.
