High temps 80-90 and humidity... put a lightweight food container/drink lid or plastic cover over the soil. If you have to water then try using a spray bottle and spray a minimal amount.

Actually the plastic seed packs themselves would make a nice cover. They sell those plastic dome trays at the garden stores but now that I think about it if you ordered your favorite drink with whipped cream and then rinse & recycle & reuse the plastic cup and the domed lid with the hole in the top, how perfect would that be?!
Well, whatever gets the job done really...

Thanks. I guess I'm wondering if there is any best practice for filing off the edges or clipping the nubs off the seed. The gourd seeds look like they have a harder outer casing.

Some people do, but nature doesnt design things to fail. They say if you help a chick out of the egg, its detrimental to the chick. Occasionally nature does benefit from some help but thats a bridge you can cross when you get there. My opinion.

It’s a must to file the seed if you want good germination rate, use a dremel tool and grind the seed the hole way around.

quinn might be correct because I only got 1/3 to germinate last year. The seeds were older so I figured that was the issue. But its certainly possible I could have gotten better results using quinns method. I think quinn tried did both ways and he got better results "with assistance." I forgot about that fact. I still had more plants than I knew what to do with but I get it... we aint going for whats easiest, we want success!
