Now, you'll have to beat my updated 40 inches' root depth, after the fact by a year and half+; Surprised you didn't start the seeds into maybe SS mix atop the test soils, but hey, whaddu I know and for something to watch out for, the soil settling downward and yet drying above may cause large gaps between any randomly-adapting soil segments. I think the roots actually grew through air to get to the next lower level(s). This here will be fun to watch and I'll update my own Diary, butt it is not a competition, lol. 40 inches...OH!!! eg

Well, these tubes are only 32" high, so your record is safe. But I love to compete,

I will compact the soil to mimick my no-till ground I pressed the potting mix down firmly as if it was walked on... I dont know whats best, but I do know what is realistic. I will let someone else do a super fluffy soil test, as for me I'm trying for about 10 psi??? Because I do walk on my soil without walking boards. Not saying what is optimal, but most roots can penetrate with a force of up to 50 psi? Dont quote me, I shoot from the hip.

I saw and held/investigated a Dollar General wire frame with a cheesecloth? basket material in it and my springtime ideas kicked in about starting a seed in SS Mix in that basket to transfer to the Patch at the right time. Poor man's? (8 bucks!? Naaahhh...) rendition of the Dale Marshall Method with the removable sides butt more like a Grow Bag than anything. Will see about a cheaper method and go from there, along with what else has 'worked' 4 me b4, lol. eg
