Ridomil or someother systemic one week, followed up with Daconil the next week. I think the key to PM is prevention. Once you see it on the leaves it is to late.

mike as you know it was incredibably wet this past growing season 04 and most everyone fought powdery mildew, but i guess i got lucky my first appeared in late september despite the rain and cold weather, anyway i used all organic stuff, first off i used the agro k program, second for disease prevention i used baking soda and soapy water sprayed folliar style and also a little neem oil later in august,i also sprayed black strap molasses foliar style at least twice a week, mike i really dont know if i just got lucky or this worked, i beleive it does, anyway neighbors lost just about all vine crops to powdery milldew and i managed to keep it away until late september,so maybe this can help you, also get in touch with dwain gipe doc gipe from this site he also live in pa and he is a wonderful organic grower and knows alot about non chemical ways to treat disease. just my thoughts, keith barrett

It is always best to mix it up by alternating a contact (such as Daconil/Ridomil Bravo) with a systemic (actually an acropetal penetrant) such as Banner, Bayleton, Eagle/Nova, 3336/Topsin, etc. This helps prevent resistance issues & improves the spectrum of control since we don't just see PM on our plants.

Contact fungicides don't exhibit resistance issues. But if an outbreak occurs, contacts alone are not as effective as a combination.

For the record, the New York area has seen a significant increase in (systemic sterol inhibitor/DMI) fungicide resitant Powdery Mildew these past few years. Therefore in 2003 the State started to allow & encourage the use of Bayleton since very few commercial growers were using it. It did a nice job from what I heard. The mode of action & chemical family is similar to other DMIs.

Strobilurin (Quadris, Flint, Compass, etc) resistance is even worse with issues developing in the same season of a new introduction if used exclusively. It is therefore mandatory that these be rotated in-season & we would preferably not use the same Strobi more than twice in a single growing season. Yikes!

I heard rumblings of a "new Powdery Mildew" last year. PM strains do evolve over time to survive under fungistatic conditions once thought impossible. But we have no way of making this determination in the field & even a lab would be too slow making the call for us to act.

I also wonder if some folks weren't seeing Downey Mildew & mistaking it for PM since the control strategies differ.

So rotate those fungicides & don't just stick with something because it works. Or it won't.

I used daconil/eagle/Quadris combo. I used Quadris 3 times. I had basically no powdery mildew. I also used the Agro K program which seemed to help.

Tom,

The smallest bottle of Banner that I sell is the 1 gallon jugs ($288). But Rosemania sells pints for (gulp) $67.95

Pints are the smallest package available.

very dilute. 1 part milk to 10 parts water. i used the half and half creamer stuff sold in quarts. discovered it a little late in the season last year when i visited a local grower, but it looks to be great as a preventative. just need to re-apply when it rains. i'll be testing it more extensively this year. can't get any cheaper than that!

What do you wanna bet this is where the old "MILK" myths came from?

as far as i know, it comes from "Farmer Boy" by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

i use 16 ounces of milk to 1 gallon of water.
i know that i do not have any where near the experience growing as the rest of you do, but im just going on the difference i saw between my two plants last season. im not saying that the "MILK" myth is true or not, but i am saying that i will be doing it again this year.
