I would be interested in people's opinions and recommendations on how long to leave one's pumpkin on the vine. I take weekly measurements and determine if the melon is still gaining and secondarily go by color. Let's say for this case study that the pumpkin has not gained any additional weight for 2 weeks and it is a deep yellow to light orange. What is the best way to preserve a specimen of say 245lbs??? The concerns of leaving in the patch: animals, questionable underneath conditions etc. I would be interested in comments & strategies.
