Are they a problem? I've got hundreds of the little things roaming around through my garden, and especially in the compost pile.

They eat decaying organic material. They don't bother with live green plant materials. Like Earthworms, they're just one more part of the soil food web.

As kids we called them "Ball Bugs". I like the large gray ones over the smaller tan ones. They crunch better.
