OK You guys I have some photo's of my Checkon 815 plant last Friday when I discovered a sever wilt problem. On examination of the vine and stump it revealed a real mess. this fits the disease board really well and I will post some pictures in the gallery. YOu all may know what this is or have slome input. but i am warning you..I am not responsible should this unknown disease be spread by just looking at it. Not SVB (I live in the PNW) Most likely a soil fungus but will have to be tested to make sure. OK posting photo's late night.this should be interesting to see if anyone else has had similar observations in growing giant plants. The 815 chekcon plant was removed entirely from the patch. Still have 5 plants that appear OK at this time.
Good example's of what is most likely one of the dreaded major wilts that hurts giant pumpkin plants and other curcurbits! ( Verticulum, fusarium, Or Bacterial)

Your pictures and information were very helpfull. I will wait for updates on the final determination. Meanwhile, I'll keep up with the Daconil.

seems like i suffered the same demise of my prime specimen.
your photos confirmed condition. trying to determine the cause as well. neighboring plant shows no signs yet. thanks from new england.

Wow, those are some nasty pictures! Had you been spraying with any fungicide on a regular basis? When you pruned vines did you always bury the ends? It seems as though this fungus got inside the vine and ran the length of it. Scarry stuff. I had trouble sleeping last night.

Bad dreams? Nasty vines for sure . This was a first for me in 7 yrs of growing pumpkins. I sure do prune and bury immediately. Didn't use anything on the fresh cuts ( never have). NO fungicide was used applied at all. Guess what? Could have got a speeding ticket on Friday, on the way to Home Depot for Daconil. But the cops didn't catch me! Daconil is now in the spray schedule for the remainder of the season. :)

Gophergirl, you did,nt by chance use any partially composted manure , or leaf mould to bury your vines and mulch with did you? I did that my 2nd season and picked up a Nasty fungi that eventually took out my best pumpkin a Dill that measured 322" total.
