Just when you got everything going, main vine out 12 ft, ready to pollinate in a week, healthy green leaves, good secondaries- several leaves on each plant about 3 feet from the tip curl towards underneath and turn brown on the eges. None of my books seem to help. What is it and can I do anything?

Sounds like sun scald to me. Older leaves don't get it. Newest leaves don't seem to get it. Just the paper plate sized leaves. I use floating row cover clamped to stakes to shade the newest growth and back to these medium sized leaves. Has been working well, only 1 injured leaf so far.
My buddy witha misting system and no shade has also suffered some leaf burn...go figure!

I sprayed a seaweed solution at 2 oz per gallon yesterday. The sun has been real hot and I tried to shade as much as possible and mist, I think that's what got them. It looked like rain this afternoon, I took the shade off and then the sun came back out, Weather starts to cool off tomorrow. Tonight about 7 I did insecticide and fungicide.

Same problem on serveral of my plants. No chemicals were used. Only the paper plate size leaves approx. 3' from the tip were damaged like a burn. The plants that had received the most water had the most damage. The back to back 93 degree days must have caused it. Duff, do you have more on "sun scald"?

got the same thing its sunburn it was hot enough to burn one main growth tip right off

Capt, All I got on sun burned leaves is the experience in my own patch. Early morning sun is blocked and then the leaves get blasted when it's most intense. Later day sun is filtered through the trees. I don't think my plants can get acclimated slowly enough to get through it. The shade cloth is a workout, moving it as main and secondaries run, but it definitely saves the leaves until they're hardened off.
