FYI...Speaks to the season.

A specific emergency exemption has been granted by EPA to New York State for the use of quinoxyfen (Quintec) on melons, winter squash, gourds, and pumpkin (non-edible-peel curcurbits) for control of powdery mildew (Podosphaera xanthii) for the 2005 growing season. Steve... I read this stuff and what I see is "crop injury, yield reduction, and crop loss" concerns with this product. Not good when we do stuff to get the ultimate production from a plant. Is this the case as you see it? Or am I just seeing the big biz fine print before I normally do? They say this is the second year of this emergency exemption...and that they are ammassing the results from the first year...any insight as to "crop injury, reduction, etc" on its first years use on our stuff? Do you have access to PSUR database info/results/comments etc?...tnx...G

I believe that "crop injury" stuff is just DOW's way of covering their butts. Various government agencies have made DOW's life miserable in the past & DOW didn't request this labele exempted use. New York cucurbit growers have over-used Quadris/Heritage to the point they no longer work on Powdery Mildew. Quintec is the best no-resistance strobilurin available today. Strobis are very safe around people & in the environment. Thus farmers & NY State DEC love strobis. But since DOW never sought Cucurbits on their initial application, they must not be entirely comfortable with the potential liability associate with this "non-requested use change".
