Last yr got powdery mildew bad--by aug 10th. I did'nt know that i hade it-untill aug 10 th. As i made mastake & let to much 3rd stage grow.then used imunox plus it helped. so this yr i want to spray just befor nesassary ahead of time , but not to late ,as i think that the cemicals may burn Or age plants faster, but i think its about time now! OK question i have banner max this time , but also imunox too, could get daconal! which do i start with , my plants are close to 400 sq ft now so i want to concider not walking in between secondarys anymore than i have too,if i start with the banner max i wont have to spray for longer time than others , but banner max is growth regulator & some sugested not to use it first/ O the pumpkins look set there 9 days & 25 cir & 14 days & 40 in cir??

Fissh, I'd go with immunox, daconil, and the BM. Save the Banner until you have fruit set and growing well. That rotation should help prevent Pm from locking onto your leaves. Systemic/contact/systemic. Hopefully Tremor will chime in on this.

If you can get your hands on Ridomil, it works well for stopping it quickly.

OOps, sorry, I should read properly first.
I'd do a bit different than Jeff because of the chemical composition of the products you have.
Try Daconil first, turn to BM after fruit set, Immunox after that. The BM will work nicely for you as a systemic, the Daconil is a good contact preventative, the two combined are even better.

Glenn,
If you can get eagle, use it, great stuff, systemic fungicide. That alternated with daconil should do the trick.

I've had pretty good succes with fish and seaweed over the last couple seasons. Zuc's and squash got it pretty bad
couple seasons ago when I wasn't spraying them along with the AG's. Everyhting in the garden gets the spray now!
Best of luck, Duff

Fissh, been reading. Have you seen Tremor's 'must read' thread about PM? And, here's an article...

Tom's answer is best if you can get it....I use an Eagle/Daconil combo, alternated with a Abound/Mancozeb combo and no hint of any type of mildew here which is a major problem in my area.
("Abound" is azoxystrobin, "Eagle" is myclobutanil")

Neem oil works great, add two table spoons of baking soda per gallon, this is one of the organic solutions

Glenn,

Was out in the woods all weekend. No signal but got your voice mail eventually.

Ditto Tom & Kyle's Eagle + Daconil rotation recommendation. Start with Eagle if the PM is visable already.

To be brutally honest; once PM starts you'll be battling it all year. But don't give up & don't be tempted into using heavy rates. The distress caused to the leaves will be just as bad (or worse) than the PM.

Neem Oil will makes the powder of PM disappear, but the disease marches on. It is also pretty tough on the leaves compared to conventional fungicides especially during warm weather.

Great!!! Now Neem Oil is a farce and non-biodegradable poisons have become coventional. Mercy this is a strange way, of thinking the truth, in the matter. Sounds almost as good as one, of our recent presidents crying out, "I did not have sex with that lady". He is considered a great communicator too.

Neem Oil works very well when the label advise is followed.
The label has both directions, for prevent and attacking, to stop the milldews...both types. We have learned that two tablespoons, of Baking Soda per gallon, of Neem Oil mix, increases the effective action, of the application. Yep if you do not follow the directions and stay off brand new growth you can indeed have a problem even with cool clear water.

OK...let me reiterate. Neem, Baking Soda, whole unprocessed milk, M-Pede Soap & Superior Hort Oil all work great for Powdery Mildew even after it has started if they are applied ever 48 hours. Great for the retired, empty nester or unemployed. Some growers have already gotten into the routine of daily sprays. So for them I agree, this is a viable control strategy....sometimes.
