I have been seeing these flying around the patch every so often and every time i see one I dont have my hoe or shovel to take the babe ruth swing at em,lol. If i do see one and and i happen to have anything in my hand like a hoe or something its going down,I will sacrafice a leaf or secondary to kill one this is how bad i hate em.

Here is my question,Last year I found some eggs before they hatched and also did find one svb in the main vine of one of my plants that I cut out, but this year I havnt been seeing the eggs,I was wondering as long as there is a good coat of pesticide on the leaves like I have been applying will a svb still lay his eggs on top of this coat of pesticide I sprayed the leaves with? I have also found that the Bush tree and shrub from bayer is working quite well for the first time using it this year. I used this as a trial use on one of my back ups first with no ill effects and I even sprayed it on the leaves at 2 tbs per 2 gallon of water. I havnt yet sprayed the leaves with this stuff on my good plants yet but I have drenched the roots at the stump and roots coming out of the secondaries. I am tempted to spray the leaves since it didnt bother my trial plant. The bush tree and shrub product I use from bayer does have the Merit init, but Im not 100 percent positive if Im even usin the proper amount of this stuff to being affective because the directions call for measuring your bush or tree and then mix with water accordingly to bush or tree size,so it makes it hard to try to figure out what would be the proper does for a pumpkin plant. What do ya think?

Brooks...Merit will only be effective if the insect in question is a sucker or chewer, in which case it will feed and die.
You can use Malathion as a deterent for the SVB and it should be readily available in your area, but I'd only use it at 1/2 strength!!! It's harsh stuff on a AG plant if not used in *strict* accordance with the label instructions, but SVB's hate it.
E-mail me for more...
