Tonight I spotted an SVB on my daughters plant. I squashed it and inspected my patch for more. I didn't find any eggs but, I was wondering if Merit will kill the larvae when they try to bore into the vine? I have applied Merit 2 times this year, once in April and once in June. I also have been spraying Talstar every 2 weeks.

I use sevin painted on the vines to kill those that want to bore. Merit is also used and I had good results last year. Once I observed SVB damage I applied Merit and after a few days I found dead larvae inside the vine. This year the Merit was applied according to the schedule to prevent.

Since I lost my good plant to an SVB last year I have been keeping up with the Preventative Maintenance schedule for Merit and Talstar. So far I don't see any signs of damage but by that time it's usually too late! I hate that Bug more thany anything else. Atleast with cucumber beetles I find them dead on the ground if my pesticides are working.
By the time you notice the SVB's it's a race to kill them and their offrspring before the damage is done.

Update 7/20, forget the painted sevin and two timely applications of Merit. My plants are loaded with SVB larvae and I was thinking I had a jump on them.
