My father noticed something had made holes in the vine and he knew right away that we had gotten attacked by the SVB...
Tonight i went into the patch and seen the damage on 2 of my plants, so far the 3rd plant has not been hit. Last night there was no evidence of any kind of infestation. Is this normal?

I took my knife and cut gently into the vine and made a slit and came across a couple of white worms with a black head, they looked like maggots, I took the worms out and killed them and inspected the vine for anymore problems..Just on 1 plant i took out 4 worms and didn't notice anymore, I then did the same on the 2nd plant, Then I got my mixture of Sevin, Imunox and Diacon and sprayed the entire plants, leaves, underside and the main vine, I then sprayed the slits that i had took the worms out of and then i put Captan on them and sealed them back up...

My questions are. Did I do this correctly? and what else can i use to eliminate this problem from occuring on my 3rd plant? This is our 2nd year of growing Giant Pumpkins and we are still "wet and green behind the ears" everyday seems like a learning experience...And the last question is, Is our growing season done for the 2 plants that got hit...The worms were just inside a leaf joint on the main vine, where i found them and on the other plant 2 were just inside the vine but it looked like they hadn't done much damage..

I don't want the infestation to hit my 3rd plant, this plant is doing Great......
Any help would be greatly appreciated.....

Sorry to hear about the plants. The plants may recover from the damage. Even so, whenever their season is over remove those plants and burn them. I use admire, a systemic, and triazicide(a contact) to help control them. The past three years they have damaged many of my Atlantic Giants but do not touch my reg field pumpkins....Tom
