Ok not 100% if They have attacked my plant or not, I know about a month ago i was spotting them on a daily basis around my plants, I sprayed and kept spraying on a weekly basis, Problem is we have recieved so much rain i dont know how effective the spray has been. Anyhow today while out in the patch inspecting the plants, My BEST plant on the main vine about a foot away from the stump i noticed a small pin sized brown spot and it had sawdust liek powder around it. Which looks like it could possibly be an SVB.

At this point in the game what are my options on controlling them IF BY CHANCE I MIGHT HAVE ONE IN THE VINE.

Dig that one out and get yourself some MERIT. I put it down in granular pre planting then once every two weeks I drench the area around the stump and around both sides of the plant (kind of a honey hole) to keep it flowing into the plant.

How do i dig it out? will it be right were the hole is at?
last thing i want to do is end up killing the entire plant
i'm not 100% sure that it is a vine borer it could be a small split down the vine i donno, id rather apply something to the plant that will travel threw the vines that would kill it instead of cutting it open.

hmmm hard choice. IF it is a vine borer will i notice more woody like chips comeing out the hole will that area get soft? do they stay in one part of the vine or do they travel? wouldnt just applying some sevin to that area of the vine work? like if it was able to seep into the hole?

they travel down the vine, eating as they go. the sawdust stuff is from the larvae. if you saw the adults then saw a hole with the frass outside it, i would get in there and get the bugger out. you make a slit on the vine, parallel with the vine direction until you find the white larvae. that's just what i know from learning... maybe someone with more experience can help out more or send you some pics.

Ok so how far would you cut before you gave up looking ?

Also after the cut would you allow to dry for a day or 2 before applying garden sulphur? or just dust it lightly

You can also inject nematodes into the stem with a hypodermic needle. I have never done it, but I know GardensAlive.com sells the stuff.

when you slit the vine open light a cigar and let the smoke around and in the vine tobbacco smoke kills insects they will back out if nothing else. It worked for me.
