Okay, I thought I could handle this myself. I've baited for slugs, Washington's most frequent garden predator. Next I sprayed Triazicide and sprinkled Triazicide granules hoping to kill the earwigs which I had seen and assumed were eating my leaves. But, the leaves continue to be eaten! I have never seen anything actually eating the leaves. We don't have cuke beetles in Washington, do we? I know it's a pain, but you can check out a picture in my diary. It's the very last post. When I get a link, I'll post it here.

I bet it's cuke beetles or those pesky brown leaf cutter grasshoppers. And I do believe WA has cucumber beetles but can't say for sure. Hope you figure it out!

it looks like the damage was done when the leaf was young and has healed up. probably cuke beetles since i have a few leaves like that. doesn't seem to hurt the leaves any

I agreee that this leave looks like it was damaged a while ago and grew to this state. Greg

That's just the leaf I could get the best picture of without tippy toeing through the patch. I got lots more leaves like that, young and tender.
