Farmer Braun

St. Louis, MO

I just bought Bonide’s Dragoon Dust with Copper from the local farm store. I only use organic pesticides. The product contains Rotenone, Copper, and Carbryl, but I can’t find out if Carbryl is organic.

Can someone help me out?

Thanks, Paul

The term organic is hard to interpret sometimes. Ask a chemist, & all organic chemicals that contain oxygen is organic so Sevin would be consider an organochemical. but it's not really.

Copper is a metallic so it isn't organic at all. Natural Organic should mean "once or still alive with carbon & oxygen naturally still attached".

Just who is in charge of defining "organic"?

The best efforts to date is just about as confusing as one might expect it could be considering the BILLIONS of Dollars spent on "organic stuff" every year.

See this link for the polical & legal headache:

http://www.ams.usda.gov/nop/NOP/standards.html

See this link for "biopesticides" that will probably help you reach your goals without "chemicals":

http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/biopesticides/whatarebiopesticides.htm

Best wishes in your quest Paul. It isn't easy but it can be done.

Steve
