Can anyone provide me with any successful methods for keeping rabbits out of the garden. A friend of mine has rabbit problems and needs a little help. And shotguns are not the answer I am looking for :)

Thanks,
David

I've seen rabbits running around here but we haven't had any trouble with them in the garden. Maybe we haven't grown anything they like.

1. Sprinkling a little powdered cayenne pepper on the plants they have been eating will send them elsewhere to eat. Re-apply after rain.
2. Buy a Have-A-Heart trap baited with lettuce, carrots, etc. You may also be surprised with an occasional groundhog, opossum, or racoon. Be sure to release them far enough away that they are not YOUR problem any more. Check local laws on trap and release!
3. WABBIT STEW!

you said shot gun.... nothing about a 22
they are really quiet too. ... just kidding :)

how big is your friends garden... in addition
to the above good ideas you could try a fence
all the way around it.

Buy a trap,
Build a fence,
Shoot him with a gun,
Shoot him with an arrow (if the gun is too noisy),
Plant some carrots for him,
Turn him into a pet,
Buy a Beagle,
Take up falconry as a hobby.
Lots of things to do with Rabbits!

In the past I have raised rabbits and used their droppings to spread around the vegatables and tree seedlings. I Never once had a problem with wild rabbits in my or my parents garden, although I saw many running around. I guess rabbits are like a territorial animal and stay away from the other droppings....Tom

David with all the soil prep, digging and practicing seed starting I guess this post scared me the most...I thought it was too early for "Pests"...Thanks for bringing me back to reality...My sister has the same problem and even a small fence didn't work...If I remember Bruiser had varmit problems last year and used an electrified fence. chuck

I agree with Tom. (Bantam) Rabbits are very territorial, so if you can distribute a few shovelsful of rabbit crap around you patch I am pretty sure you'll be okay.
