with the drought we had this yr i was up to thinking a good winter with snow will put us in the clear for a great season but now im having second thoughts the papers all say this is the warmest jan on record with minumal snow fall and such is this a bad sign for another hot and dry summer??

We had around 17" of snow in December. When it melted it all went into the ground. No runoff. It rained all day Saturday and half of Sunday. Again, no runoff. There is no frost in the ground. Around Anamosa the ponds have a skim of honeycomb ice with open water on the edges. Go just down towards Davenport and the ponds are all totally ice free. Usually we have 12" to 18" of ice this time of year. I'm not complaining about the warmth; it is really helping with heating costs. And all of the moisture is going into the soil where it is needed.

I would take a dry summer anytime, over a wet one. One can always water, but if its to wet, you live with it.
