In my line of work folks are always asking "when is the best time to spray...." as though bugs & fungal pathogens keep a calendar.
They don't.
Most of my customer & the better Pumpkin growers that I know talk to each other so they know where pests are starting to show up. They have learned that a pest that sometimes shows up on July 1st might come 2 weeks earlier & rip them to shreds if they subscribe to the "it's always worked before" theory.
Here is a useful tool that is used by Golf superintendents & other Green Industry professionals. I will suggest that similar pest predicitions can be had by any of us but especially those who don't belong to a good growers club.
