I always get a fairly major influx of japanese beetles each spring. Last year they fell in love with a new cherry tree I had planted. Any suggestions on doing battle with these little critters. My cherry tree is full of little cherries this year and I sure would like to be able to enjoy them. All help appreciated. Peace, Wayne

Hi wayne, I use something here called "bag a bug japanese beetle trap". They are made by spectracide, I get them at my local homegarden center. They work great, no joke they will catch a 1000 or more japanese beetles a day each and cost like 4-5$ get a few.

Japanese beetle traps work great and will attract every jap. beetle within a mile radius.Your neighbors will thank you for attracting them to your yard rather than theirs.

Borer, I could possibly, maybe,...well maybe not, no def not treat my 3.5 acres or so of lawn...but what would I do with the thousands of acres of open land around me. I need a treatment that will keep the bugs off of the treated area?...any ideas anyone...attracting them from the area does not sound good either...do they make a trap that doesn't send out attractant for a long distance? Somebody has to have a solution??? Thanks for all the help!!! Peace, Wayne

Wayne...Chickens...LOL..Chickens eat the grubs..They love fresh green grass...then lay yummy free range eggs...that are more flavorful then any egg you have ever eaten. Yokes as orange as a purty pumpkin.

Beetle traps should be located at least 100 feet away from the tree you're trying to protect. Controlling Grubs in the lawn will help but keep in mind that Beetles fly & will visit from untreated lawns nearby. This is one time I will agree that Milky Spore works if you have an aversion to chemical insecticides. Milky Spore does control Japanese Beetle grubs in turf. But there is no organic adulticide. So you might need to use a chemical insecticide on the adult Beetles if these other practices fail to provide sufficient relief.
