My 1st true leaves on my pumpkin plants are deformed. They have had adequate moisture and temps. They have had lights about 2" overhead. I have used no insecticides or fungicides. I used Miracle Grow seed starting mix. What am I doing wrong? Will they come out of it? I have a picture of the leaf on grower diary entry # 25 (taran2sabrina). Thank you! Kevin

kevin - from what i've seen, that will often happen with artificial lighting. that picture looks exactly like what i have had before. i've been putting my seedlings outside in natural light ever since, even if it is a little cool out.

You fellows can eliminate lighting UV burn by investing in slip tubes that block UV. Your electrical supply house will gladly sell them to you. Cost about $25.00 for two four foot tubes. They may offer you end caps. At least in my set up there is no where the lateral escape will hurt any growing under lights that I do.

These tubes do not cut the light value at all. I first learned about them, in museum display case work, in which case they do use end caps because the rays can bounce back and forth inside the case.

If those deformed cotty leaves are caused by UV lighting it can be eliminated, by using UV Blocking Tubes.
