On May 13th I set out some new plants and they appear to be dying on the ends of the leafs? They are coming out of it somewhat now,but I am sure they will be slowed in growth somewhat.Can someone tell me what caused this? or send me to someone who can? I have some pictures if someone would like to see.

Did you get a frost the weekend of the 20th like the rest of us? or a partial frost? Either that you did not harden the plants off. We need more info to tell you whats wrong?

We did not get a frost. What do you mean by hardening off?? What other information do you want??

If you start the plants indoors, then put them out side on a sunny day. The plants themselves become UV burnt. hardening them off is the process of slowly moving them outside, or doing it on aq rainy or cloudy day when less UV raus are present. This often slows them down as you speak. Also sometimes this time of year a neighbor has his yard sprayed for weeds, drift from this can hurt your pumpkins. Or a grower will spray there plants with an insecticide, causing the same problems you are describing. You are not giving us enough information to diagnose the problem you are having. 2+?=4 but 2+?= can not be answered.

My plants have just started looking healthy in the past 10 days. It was real cold in the eastern part of Iowa through the middle of May, with some days not even hitting 50. They are about 2 weeks behind normal because of that. I also got hit big time with cucumber beetles at the same time. It took a while for the soil applied Merit to kick in, and the Sevin dust was hard on the leaves. I would make sure you have the bugs killed off and hope for the best. With the temps we are getting now they should take off if there isn't some other major problem.

I put a pretty stout dose of sevin dust on them ,when I transplanted them from there peat pots. Is it typical for that insecticide to burn them?
