My parents have 4 plants and all of them ther new leaves are not fully opening. They look like an umbrella on a tropical drink, or a fan that is not completely unfolded almost like an accordian. Some are yellow others have yellow spots. Plant is a deep green. I'm thinking too much nitrogen in the soil but could this be a disease. We thought it was insecticide burn but the plant is now 7 ft out and still happening to the new growth and the old leaves have never developed. Have look thru pictures of diseases and nothing looks like a particular disease and the leaves are sticking straight up. Has to be something in the soil but what? Again looking for any ideas and not here to laugh or bash anyone, just hoping to use the wealth of knowledge out there to help my parents because I'm at a loss for ideas or remedy. Thanks again

Almost sounds like Calcium prb or did they use ammoniaum nitrate or manganese uptake some how the soil is out of balance, and sorry for the spelling, i had one just like that, i used organic nitrogen, organic calcium, fish, and seaweed, and 15-30-15 in 2 1/2 gal spray, and the following night hit it with Doconil, i know sounds like over kill, but the plant is fine now one or more of the things i used is what it needed, i just coverd all the bases. This was done when the soil was warm. and watered

Drew, you are far more exp at this than myself, since there alive still rule out herbicide,if new leafs are the same as the others, might rule out inseceticide. Did you do there soil, for them? if so we can rule out that prb. The PH? i'd use a hand rapid tester, if no soil report, yellow spotted leafs that comon for me but not at 7ft, I'm probaly gonna learn more out of this than Drew will, but without the data hard to figure/ Go to- http://henryholman.homestead.com/files/pumpkins_diease_rules.html . This site has disorters too sorry i counld be more help

One of the guys in my area is growing 7 plants in the same patch and one is exhibiting the same features as you have described. All 6 other plants look normal. The soil is ammended the same (aged manure) and the PH is around the normal range. It wasnt till the 3rd leave that it started to show this trait and has not corrected itself. We are still searching for an explination too. It even happened on one half of a leaf. One side looks fine then the other looks like a folded paper fan.? We had a very cold and rainy spring here in MA and really can't figure out what's going on. Not much help with an answer for you at least we feel your pain!...lol

Steve looked at the photo's of my parents plants and says it looks like cucumber mosiac virus. I guess there is no cure, havn't called them yet with the bad news. My dad is 78 and worked non stop last fall and early spring this past year for soil prep and he got his soil test back and was perfect and he was really pumped, this is going to destroy him, he really wanted a 1000 pounds this year.
