Will moth balls work as a temporary repellent for groundhogs/ woodchucks? After speaking with Mark Muller I know that is what is eating my plants, not bugs after all.

Lead works the best...placed right between the eyes or in the shoulder.

Try a BB gun, I bet that will teach them. Some of the more powerfull .22 caliber ones may even kill a groundhog with a well placed shot. I think a sting from a plain old red rider may scare them enough to stay away. Be carefull not to shoot your eye out. If that doesn't work try going to the video store and getting Caddyshack, lots of good info in there.

I came "this" close to buying a fake owl - but was told that groundhogs aren't afraid of owls. Let us know if that works for you. A few minutes ago, just outside the window by my desk, there was a groundhog looking up at me. This morning, in the same spot, there was a raccoon digging in the mulch. They haven't found the pumpkins - YET!

Pass on the fake owl, it only fools my dog. THem Pdogs are smart creatures too, we use to be able to shoot them but they talk to each other and learn.....Good Luck with getting them.....Too bad you cant rent a good hawk or eagle

I have no personal experience with this but have heard that pouring powdered sulpher in the den works. Also have heard that if you can get your hand on a road flare, light it and aim it into the hole they can't stand it! I'm a cop and I know from personal experience that they give off a very acrid odor.

I got seven last year and the plants were still devastated. Once they find the plants there is no stopping them. I went electric this year. Haven't seen a woodchuck since...Knock on wood!...so far so good...I dread a power failure!

Chuck I would check with your Power Company to insure they have not recently hired any short, stocky and over hairy employees. These guys are sneaky.
