As shown by my pic in grower diaries of my 701 Paynter the cot leaves are turning yellow and dying, this however does not seem to be affecting the other leaves though.

I was watering every day not to much maybe 3 liters or 1 gallon. fertilizing with 15-30-15 every 4 days.

Should I be worried about this???

Also I have 400ft. of soaker hose spread through the pumpkin patch for watering. Yesterday seen an in-line fertilizing container. something like the miracle grow fertilizer sprayer, you conect one hose on one end and another smaller hose on the other to a sprinkler, wand etc.
but doesn't mention soaker hoses. Can you fertilize like this and will the fertilizer get to the whole bed. it has a dial on top to set rate of dispersment per litre of water. I just started pumpkin growing this season so any help is appreciated, I read hundreds of post all over the web and it mentions what type of fertilizer to use but no one really clearly says how to get it onto the beds. Over head spraying, water jug etc.

Thanks

Ernie, don't worry about the cot leaves dying, natural for this to happen. Yes there is much discussion on fertilizing and ways of doing it. I personally use a miracle gro sprayer on the end of the hose. I feel this is a great way to disperse the fertilizer, and it allows me to get into and under the plant for full soaking when plant is full grown and fills the whole plot.Pumpkinpiper

I used the Miracle Gro sprayer inline with my soaker hoses and as the season wore on the hose became clogged and useless. I suspect the fertilizer built up over time. If I had put an endcap on the soaker hose that I could open and up and flush periodically maybe this would not have happened. Either way it was frustrating enough not to try again this year.

Since Miracle Gro and other similar water solubles are not supposed to burn your leaves I guess you could apply it just about any way you want to.

When we apply 15-30-15 Miracle Gro we apply by hand with warm water, everyone has their own way of doing it. We use warm water so that plant doesnt get shocked. We apply directly to the ground at the stem and 3 feet in all directions from the plant. When we first put the plants in the ground we used 10-52-10 Miracle Gro and put 1 gallon on each plant area. After 3-4 weeks of that we switch to the 15-30-15 and use 2 gallons per plant area. It really depends on if your soil needs it, ours drains well, so if its hot and windy to dry out the soil we water(we mix 1/4 mixture of MG when we water daily full strength when we water every 3 days.) But like I said everyone does it different this is just the way we do it, so far it works for us! Hope this helps.
