I have been scouring the internet for a verified image of an SVB egg. I have been unable to locate any. I have uploaded several images to the photo gallery. Could someone identify these? My first impression is SVB. The eggs (if that's what they are) are attached to the plants with a fine thread of what appears to be silk. They are oval, flat, and dark red to brownish black. The shells are very hard. Several days ago I was chasing a significant number of SVB moths around the patch. I would like to have an absolute confirmation, not a guess, as my entire season is riding on this.

I did see the image Tremor posted a link to a few threads down. I am wondering if the color is a constant? What I have found is identical to that, but much darker.

Yes it is Steve. I just got your mail. The SVB egg image is identical to what I have with the exception of color. The pics are up in the Photo Gallery now.

I just resent with a delivery & read receipt requirement. I hate when email doesn't work the way I want it to.

There a 5 images. Three are SVB - eggs, larvae & adult.
The other two are Squash Bug & Cucumber Beetle eggs for comparison.

It would NOT surprise me if those eggs were the same as what we see up here but a color variation, color phase, or normal to you're region. There are many clearwinged moths that bore through plants. The squash vine borer's we have here leave the reddish, brick colored eggs....I would certainly treat the plant the same...contact and systemic defenses asap.Catch a SVB...post a pic...it may have a different color phase than here also...I'm sure it talks funny too...

I agree G. I haven't seen any more moths for a few days now. Looks like the first wave is over. Merit has already gone down, 5 gallons per plant. Bifenthrin (Ortho Bug B Gone Max) is going on this evening. Lambda-cyhalothrin (Triazicide) is going on tomorrow. I'll be alternating the two for the next two to three weeks with weekly Merit drenches. I inspected the plants very closely this afternoon and saw no signs of frass. Plants are as yet showing no signs of stress. I saw the first moth on the 16th of June and killed it in the early morning. I sprayed Triazicide a week later and suffered no damage. This latest wave of many moths occured on July 2nd. I expect a major hatch out any day now. Time will tell if the season is over or not.

Glenn does bring up a good point. Regional & even seasonal variations in egg appearance might happen.

YIKES!!! Monty isn't trying to CONTROL SVB...he's trying to annihilate them. LOL

Here is an interesting piece of information. Tom P. has found the exact same eggs in his patch...and has not seen a single SVB moth. Some other growers have found them as well. So now I am going to take some of them to my local county extension agent for identification. If they cannot identify them, maybe they will direct me to one of the local Master Gardeners who may be able to help. I am leaning toward the eggs belonging to some form of moth, which would explain the similarity to SVB eggs. The question is, are they harmful or not?

Annihilation would be a good way to describe it Steve :) It's chemical warfare time. I have definately noticed a distinct lack of cuke beetles and squash bugs lately ;)
