I have a problem with my 1130 lyons. The stems are long and stocky, the problem is 2 so far have split to the edge of the pumpkin.I culled the first one, then the 2nd one also developed splits. My other plants don't seem to have this problem.Any thoughts,or treatments to stop this from occuring all comments will be appreciated.Scoops

How is your soil's Calcium levels? Mine Calcium is fine & last year I suffered splits like crazy too. So I don't even know why I bring it up. LOL.

I wish there was a silver bullet to prevent stem splits. But genetics is probably the larger issue here.

I think?

I'm not sure on calcium levels,it could be genetics because my two other plants seem to be fine. Thanks tremor.

If you are seeing a lot of SVB adults then 2-3 weeks is good.

I have splits in darn near all my pumpkin stems. Does it effect pumpkin growth? And at what point would a stem split disqualify a pumpkin from a weigh-in?
