I have noticed during the last several days that some of the leaves on my remaining plant seem to be turning a copper/tan color along the leaf veins. Other than the discoloration the plant looks perfectly healthy (so far). I have one pumpkin growing average of 4" per day. Anyone have any idea what this is and what I can do to prevent it from getting worse? I posted a picture on my grower diary of this problem.

Still not sure Drew, I ruled out the mites (I think). Couldn't pick them up with my eyesight anyway! lol Pumpkin still getting 4 to 5 inches a day and leaves don't seem to be wilting but I can't imagine this is doing them any good. Just looks bad. Finally got a dry day to apply some fungicide today but hope it isn;t to little to late. Was hoping someone would have some ideas.

Mark, have you made any foliar fertilizer apps lately?

Diagnosing problems is much easier when we know EVERYTHING that has been done & the conditions at the time. A good garden journal includes some fairly arcane data such as date, time, temperature, humidity, daily highs & lows, all rain/irrigation events, what applied, rate, etc. Looking at ALL of these details makes figuring out what went wrong a lot easier.

What is a Hoot & why does he have dirt?

Ok, "Hoot" was the nickname of my late father-in-law. My wife and I live on the "home place". He was in the excavating business and when he built this house bought in a world of top soil that he got from some still undisclosed location. Well, it is darn good soil so hence the name "hoots dirt"....wondered how long it would be before I would have to explain that one! lol

Steve, I foliar fed on 7/8/06 with Algacore soluble Kelp. Started noticing the problem on the 12th. I sent you an email a little earlier explaining in more detail. applied 7:00am, temp was 70, sun did not contact until around 9:00am. High temp of 84.

I had that problem last year on one of my plants. I have it on the plant that is in the place the other one grew last year. Somebody advised a copper based fungicid to me. I sprayed last week and it didn`t seem to work. The plant that was affected last year was struck hard. Cost me a lot of lbs. Still I don`t really know what it was. The leaves turn copper coloured and brittle from the inside to the outside and a sort of leaf-skeleton remains with almost no green in it. From my diary last year:

Algacore is 0-0-13 I think...love the micros but might be a little early for the potash...unless your deficient in it. could be putting the soil out of balance...just a guess without all the info.

So, I think I have news on this. Sprayed some copper fungicid yesterday and discovered that the affected leaves are mostly not to say "only" around pumpkins that are growing fast. I believe that the fast growing fruit is taking a nutrient away so the leaves won`t get it and turn brown. Hoots, is it the same with your plants too? Just a guess from a rookie though.
