Hey Dan, Here is one of the posts I was talking about last night. Check out the third paragraph under "Diseases". It states that Angular Leaf Spot can be carried on seed. Other State extensions say the same thing. Anyway, worth a read. Deb:)

Interesting read.
Does anyone have any other info on the possibilites of seed distributing disease? I don't remember seeing this discussed on this board.

Of course I might have missed it,,,heh heh.

All seeds may carry potential diseases..fusaria, angular, etc...presoaking in an sterilizing solution..ie bleach, peroxide solution..etc .. is recommended...all tools from last year should also be treated the same way...I know it sounds crazy but after a few times of losing a plant from a spread of a disease could have been avoided..We get so little time with em..try and keep em!..lol

Good point alexsdad. Because there are so many other variables and nasties that can quickly cause the demise of our season I beleive hygeine is very important right through from weeding, proper water techniques(ie. not spraying up dirt onto plant) sterilization, not walking through wet patches and going to other plants, etc. At least this is one variable we can somewhat control. Must be the RN in me talking...lol

Deb..........nursey poo, you are right on. They chased me off the board five years ago when I mentioned cross contamination while counting seeds or taking seed out, of multiple pumpkins. Cleaning them in the same common washes, stomping through patches and so forth. :)

Why on Earth would anyone chase you off the board for discussing something like that doc? It just seems like something so basic that we can all do to enhance our chances for success. Anyway...thank-you very much for the reply. Deb:)
