Was having a fantastic season until each of my pumpkins one by one has succumbed to some type of fungus after about a week of growth. In each case they grow vigrously for about a week then they turn from yellow to a white in a blotchy pattern. They then disintegrate from the inside out and literally just turn to mush. The vines and leaves are fine and I am stumped. Any ideas what would cause this?

Sounds like your pumpkins are aborting Fish, keep trying to pollinate the females untill one takes.

Garden State Pumpkins

fusaria...alternaria.(sic)..or they're just not setting ..heat...to much nitrogen etc...be advised I decided that I had to much nitrogrn my first year and didn't get a tissue sample done....I lost the second year too....when I finally tested the tissue it showed that I had fusaria/alternaria....get it tested with a fresh sample....be sure not to lose another year..Good Luck!

Yes I lost one the same way after bowling ball size, was going gang busters, slowed, no growth, then white starting from the blossom end first........1204 Kline, massive plant now with no kins on it. Pollinating again......Good Luck

I lost 4 pumpkins this year the same way. The pumpkins were about 30 days old so I know the pollination took. They all aborted. The plants looked good. The only thing I could figure is that I wasn't watering enough. I started watering more and 1 of my pumpkins still looks good. The plants never looked excessivly wilted given the weather conditions.

Alex, how did you get rid of the fungus prior to the next year? I've been watching on the news and it was definately a fungus infection on my plants. So sad...had some fantastic plant growth. I raked up and burnt the vines, leaves etc during my fall brush pickup but am wondering if I need to put down some type of fungucide? I really dont want to lose another year.

I had Fusaria/Alternaria recommendation was to lay the ground fallow for 4 years. Ground sterilization will eat up most of your spring..since it has to be down with a solarization technique...Zero tol is also expensive and requires drenching periodically...I never found a mixture to spray on that wouldn't burn the leaves. I did finally abandon that patch and start a new one...AVoiding heavy nitrogen doses which I believe caused the fusaria bloom in the first place.
