Basically the stump cracked open and white stuff is coming out. That's how my mom described this over the phone. Can anyone help diagnose it? I'm not too optimistic!

scleritonia, at least i think that's how you spell it. seems to be the disease of the year for 06. you'll lose the stump, but the rest of the plant should survive.
