I watered the patch Friday. Woke up Saturday and went out to look and found a mole tunnel had formed overnight and he was burrowing all over my patch. His tunnel came right up next to one of my pumpkins. I set a trap, and within 8 hours I had that sucker!!!! I took the trap out of the hole and he was still alive. I laughed at him and said serves you right sucka. I then threw the trap with him in it on the ground and let him fry in the sun... Am I mean???? Or would anyone else react like this!!!

Traps are an effective way to control moles but this time of year we should be starting to see our 1st & 2nd instart white grubs. This is quite likely WHY the moles came along right now.

Did you use Merit on your entire patch back in May? If not you have a battle looming.

Yeah, I used Merit on the entire patch. would merit have killed all of the grubs where i sprayed????

Merit doesn't kill 2nd instar (or larger) grubs. It cahn only prevent them.

Merit had to be applied before July 1 for "ideal" results.

When did you apply?

not sure of exact date, but it was somewhere around that date give or take a week.

Then if the material was applied accuratly you should have grubs. Earthworms attract moles too & we don't want to get rid of them. Keep trapping as needed.
