Rained, again here all day Saturday. When I went out to check the guys in the greenhouse on Sunday, I found patches of white 'fur' on the ground in and surrounding the mounds for my 2 plants. It was about 1/4 to half inch high, hairs of...what resembled some sort of mold or mildew. None of the invading 'stuff' was on or affecting either plant, only the ground. After the initial panic and temper tantrum wore off, I hoed off the fuzz and sprayed a sulphur-laden fungicide on the affected area and began a combative regiment the rest of the day, alternating between heat and fan to try and dry out the moisture as much as possible. There was no evidence of the mold/mildew today. I'm wondering if I did the right thing or totally misdiagnosed the problem. Any thoughts as to what it was and any further measures to be taken would be greatly appreciated.

Stunner what you did sounds reasonable. What is the growing matter you're in. Sounds like some of the compost is still decomposing. Just a guess but definitely sounds like a mold.

The compost I used consisted of vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, seaweed, shrimp shells, leaves and grass clippings. It is a very rich compost that is of the consistancy of fluff, very well decomposed, about 4 years old, however, it did come out from under a tarp so it's hard to say if the mold was carried in with it. In any case there hasn't been any seen the last 2 days and 'moose' and 'squirrel' are doing just fine. We even had a little sunshine yesterday and more to come today.
