I am curious as to a particular wilting I am experiencing this year. I have seen it before but not quite this much. The leaves have portions(usually on the tips) that turn dark grey to black and wilt that part of the leaf. Next day or so that portion of the leaf is crispy light brown(dead). Could this be some sort of heat or spray burn? Thanx!

Snake oil,

Sounds like heat burn to me! (I think most of us are experiencing a little of this this season).

..... or overfertilizing, or spray burn.

I had one plant that just had 3 stems sticking up from a day of 105 heat. Now its put on new growth and really showings signs of wanting to do something. I really thought it was a gonner, but its a tough old bird i guess it looks great now. I wish i had taking a pic of it before and now to show what a turn around it has made

SO - That would be the burn from the heat. Leave them on the plant unless it is extremely severe and 90% of the leaf is gone. Give your plant a good watering & if the heat continues maybe a little shade. Good Luck - Ceis

Thanks for the help. I agree. I believe it is heat burn too. I wonder why I am seeing so much more of it this season? Is it that much hotter this year? Maybe it's that whole global warming, ozone reduction thing. Thanx

Hi Polka Dot - Yeah I really want to go to the Canby weigh-off. Just need some details. Do you know when it is? I posted in the 'Weigh-offs' board about events in the Northwest. Only got info regarding the Puyallup fair. (first weekend in Sept)
I'd like to meet you too. - Ceis

Extreme wilt, then burn. I've been getting this when the temps are in the 90s even when watering well the night before. Only (partial) shading has helped prevent additional burn. One of my mains got fried before I knew what was happening. Good Luck - Ceis

I've also noticed it is genetic issue. I have different strains in hills side by side, one plant's leaves slowly burning from the tips in, the other plant looks great.

The Canby weigh-off is Oct 5th. I still need to find out the location.
