Sunflower seeds.....There is not an effective relocation program that works. Unless they relocate from the trees to a freezer.

Gary,

I've caught many a sqirrel in the raccoon size hav-a-hart box trap. Lord the noise they make banging around. Anyway, I then stick the trap in the truck & cruise into New York (illegal but never got caught) since they need to be 10+ miles from home or may return.

The catapult is probably a lot cheaper & more entertaining.

For some reason no matter how many I caught the exact same number are always here. Nature always finds a way.

Well breeding season is soon to bee here. So now is the time.

Ear of corn works great, as do penuts. I hid a trap and surounded it by straw bales. the animal goes in and get caught. Foxes and cats and CARS are the only way I know of controling them. But they move to where the food is, your neighbors may be feeding them. or you may have a squirell nest in your neighborhood.

Here are a couple phrases for you to remember.

When you see kids and dogs in the street hit the brakes

When you see squirel and poloticians hit the gas. lol

I caught 28 squirrels last year after the big damage of 2005 (ask Brooks about that). I relocated all of them....most to Commack, some to Mastic beach...and I've only seen a few this year...you can reduce the populations on a local level.....for a while anyway. Favorite bait with the trap was quartered jack-be-littles.

Presently my tree rats leave my pumpkins alone until I put them on the porch way late in October, at that time its not a problem. They do however take all peaches, pears, and apples. Im wanting to relocate the but dont want others to move in that have a taste for pumpkins.....Ill start up the trap this weekend and see who shows up. Initial bait to be peanut butter and shelled peanuts......

As populations increase food sources widen....a spring frost at the wrong time may mean no fruit for them and then they will eat pkns. They will rip open vines for water in a drought....been there done that.

try putting a little antifreeze out for them to drink, or some fly bait mixed with coke i have heard this works well for racoon control maybe squirrels will like it too.
