After doing some research I have found that my garden pests are probably voles and not moles. I was wondering if the strategies are different. I am planning on trying mouse traps with apple as a bait. I have also tried mole poison peanuts and found they have not worked. I have read about Talprid and also mole castor oil. Any suggestions here or in email would be much appreciated. I have read about this in other forums, but hoping for more recent responses. Thanks for your help.

Talpirid is awesome for MOLES but not voles. I've been selling Talpirid since it first came out (as well as every other bait) & nothing has ever come close.

A few years ago there was a VOLE bait that worked well. It was a seed meal laced with Zinc Phosphide. The trouble was it was too good & killed other nontarget terrestrial mammals that got into it. Gone.

For the past 2 years I have used a product called Mole Max. It is a granular formula that you spread like fertilizer. Comes in a 20lb bag. I can't remember who the maker is but I got it at our local farmers cooperative. After spreading it is activated by water. You can either wait for rain or spray with a water hose. I had TERRIBLE vole problems but after using this stuff I have had none! I will try to find the specifics on it and email you.

Ok, went and looked at the bag, it is actually a 10lb bag, 1 pound treats 500 sq ft. "Mole Max mole and vole repellant". It is made by Bonide and contains castor oil. Don't ask me how but this stuff WORKS!

Hi John,

I hired a professional gopher trapper this year. I also purchased "molemax". The trapper told me that molemax is the only thing that works besides trapping. The main ingredient is castor oil from castor beans.

Good luck getting rid of the pests.

John, try that Milky spore and get a outside cat. At a house I used to live in 4 years ago I never had a mole in sight, after my neighbors outside cat died they started shOWing up everywhere.
