They've been out in hordes in Iowa this spring. Early reports in Ohio sound like trouble too.

Don Young called me the other day. He had thousands of dead & dying Cucumber beetles littering the patch. The plants were also crawling with live beetles. Merit was working but too slow for his satisfaction so he started blasting them with Warrior.

Warrior was killing them too but they still kept coming.

Our concern was the sheer numbers. These armies of Cucumber Beetles had to EAT a toxic dose to die. In doing so they COULD vector bacterial wilt or a virus before dying.

I recommended he try Garlic Barrier to try & repell them. The next day he loaded his mist blower & sprayed the entire backyard including the patch.

With Don's permission & in his own words: "...saved me big time- they were flying all around landing on plants etc then when I sprayed they left and havent come back."

There bad here also, Im in the southwest corner of Wisconsin. I have not put my plants out yet because of it. Last year the beetles got me the day I transplanted and I battled bacterial wilt all season. I planned on using super light insect barrier over the plants along with some Sevin. I will have to get some Garlic Barrier and try that also. Thanks for the tip, any help against those beetles is much appriciated.

No Place Special

any advide on what to get and how to use it? Can I get this at my local greenhose stores? Lesco cary any of that? Im willing to try anything.

I think you could make your own tea. Like 1/4 fresh garlic in hot water with a drop of soap. Steeped for an hour and Spray. If the Garlic is dehydrate use less. This also helps to keep the vampires at bay.

last year i made mine from garlic & cayenne powder.
think this year will keep the cayenne powder out of the mix this year. the smell of that stuff will bring a tear to your eye!

You can make your own. Grind up two full garlic bulbs in a blender and mix in a gallon of water. Throw in a couple tablespoons of molasses. Let it set for a few days then strain it. Then use 1/4 cup with a gallon of water and spray on your plants

At Niagara I did a presentation on the various cucurbit viruses. The main vector is aphids with Cucumber Beetles a distant second. Aphids vector some viruses in as little as 6 seconds. Since modern insecticides don't work this fast I recommended Garlic Barrier as an effective Aphid repellent. The real world & university data supports their claims. It works.
