Butterflies lay eggs and they hatch out there I believe.

Try a BT insecticide for cabbage worms.

I use sevin dust for my cabbage plants. I plant about 15 dozen plants. I give them a light dusting from a mason jar with holes in the lid at about 4 feet above them. the dust stays on them for a while and even after a light rain, the white residue is still visible on them.
I only have to dust them for a few weeks. After the plants start taking off, I dont see any bugs or worms on them.

I used the spray years ago with poor results. The spray is soluable in water so even after a light rain or heavey morning dew it seemed to get washed off.

but I could be wrong
