okay, there arent many now, but it doesnt take long for them to really start multiplying. nothing seems to work, garlic?, nope, but i burned my plants nicely even using the recommended 9:1 ratio........banana peels?......nope, they actually seem to like them.

i need something that's actually going to work, and get rid of them for good.

thanks
Scott

About the only insect problem I get besides seedcorn maggots where I am is aphids. In 2005, I found quite a few of the little buggers on the old leaves near the crown. I placed an order for some Merit 75WP and in a matter of days after the soil application, every last one was gone. It even managed to translocate into the oldest leaves on the plant and I never saw another aphid.

This year, prevention is the motto so I applied Merit to the young plants while they were still in the pots as well as treated the patch before planting. They still have to "bite" the plant to get killed so I roll the dice with disease but it's a chance I personally am willing to take to not have to worry about frying the plant with a contact.

That's my limited experience with aphids anyway. Good luck! Brian

Scott,

Contact Dr. Liggett. You still have his e-mail?

He used to have an aphid problem as well. Feel free to contact him.

By the way, that 898 is thriving and should start producing males in a week or so. Best of luck with your 1370. It was a trade made in heaven. And if you haven't already, check out Quinn Werner's 985. It's a 1370 x 898.

I always get aphids on my peppers ive found that neem oil works well but doesnt last long. I bought a product called Pyola spray and it actually worked. Most other pestisides just kill the bugs but dont harm the eggs Ive found.

2 TBS of regular (not the one with bleach) Dawn in a gallon of water kills them.

One can wash them off with a vigorous spray, good luck with the 1370,

Scott, I think that depends on how far along your plant is. I applied Merit to the entire patch in May and watered it in and also gave it to the plants while they were still in the pots.

I think it's best to spray the recommended amount on the patch, including the area your plant is in and water it in. Then, as the roots and plant expand, it will continue to suck up the Merit and protect the new growth. I personally like Merit because there's almost no chance of hurting the plant, assuming the proper amount is applied and because it lasts up to 3 months I believe.

Hope that helps,
Brian
