this morning wile inspecting my plants, I found a secondary with white ooze puddling under it. I cut it right at the main and for about two inches inside the vine there was this clear jelly like substance. At first I thought it was the work of borers, but I found none. It was also close enough to the main that it may be inside it as well. So far, the plant, as well as the secondary I cut, look ok, but the vine was mushy around the exit point on the secondary.

Opinions?

I had a crack in my 922.5 Emmons stump that was oozing what sounds like the same stuff. I was freaking to say the least. Was thinking about cutting the stump out, but decided to wait it and and see what happened. I currently have a pumpkin just a hair under 300lbs growing off that main vine at 29 days old. Enough said! If youd like, send me a pic and I look and see if its kind of the same. I am fairly new to this game, but The opinion of some heavy hitters who helped talk me through mine think it was water related. Had 3.5" rain one night then into the 90's and sun. They think it may have cooked the insides. Well, Good luck!!!! Mike walcottpumpkin@aol.com

Sorry, didn't get a pic, but kinda the same situation; had a ton of rain over the weekend, then shot up to 100 with a heat index of 115 one day, 100 or so the next. probably the same situation, odd only on one plant though.

Thnx for the follow-up

Looks like this ended up being some type of stem rot. I'm loosing another vine to it now, didn't find out what to do about it until it was too late. Saw something come across a newsletter about trying to cut the rot out then washing with a solution of about 10% bleach, cover with captan. Oh well, grow and learn.
