Did you plant it in a peat pot and a leave it in when you put it in the ground? Maybe not getting enough water.

My 1233.5 Reiss wilted the most, in the heat, out of my three plants last year. I'm growing the 615 Reiss(1233.5 Reiss X self) this year. It seems a little more heat resistant, although I think it's been a little cooler here in MN, than last year.

Needs more water! Try watering morning and night. Be careful to keep the water off the leaves in the morning. If your vines are getting longer, make sure they are buried. Wilting can be a sign of a big plant with a poor secondary root system. Also be careful of the growing point in these hot, high UV days. If the plant is suffering from moisture stress, you will have a greater chance of tip burn. Personally I shade my growing points...(see diary)

I wouldnt water at night, especially if you are watering overhead. That will defnitely promote various fungal problems.

I disagree. Watering overhead in the evening this time of year is fine, but you need to stop by mid July.

I planted a 1233 Reiss this year. Can't do a thing with it, every time I touch it something breaks off.The plant looks like a bush summer squash.

I agree with Vince, your plant might not have a chance to see fungal problems later if your plant is wilting now,so Id try to keep them leaves from wilting as much as possable, the less stress on your plant the better it will be for it, I think.

Mine is the same way, it doesn't like the direct sun even when its well watered, and it double vined. But the proof is in the pudding, we'll se what it does when a fruit is on. My 940 Mombert '00 is even worse than the 1233 for wilting and the 641 Andrews is bad too. The 1367 Rose on the other hand doesn't seem to mind at all, strong plant I just wish I would've got it in the ground two week earlier.

I wonder if orange color genetics, in general, are less heat tolerant? Looking at PA Punkin' Pharmer's comments, the 940 Mombert 00 and the 1233 Reiss both have a lot of orange genetics in them...the father in both is the 801.5 Stelts. The 641 Andrews has a decent amt. of orange genetics in it as well.

My 1295 Jutras has the 801 Stelts in it Doug, and the leaves on that plant burn really easy, Maybe the 801 genetics might have something to do with producing the tender leaves.

My orange genetics are alot more heat/wilt resistant. I grew the 891 northrup last year (SAME AS 670 DAIGLE )
& the heat didn't phase it.
This years 1191 werner is the most tolerant.

i grew the 1233 last year and am again this yr. i had it in a hothouse until yesterday (yes yesterday!!). it was 93 outside the hothouse a few times last week, so i'd say well over 100 inside. no wilt ever.

The 1233 didn't mind the heat so much, but direct sunlight is the problem. Its not the worst plant I've grown, but far from the best. I also grew the 891 Northrup last year, it had no problems with heat or sunlight. In general some of the orange plants do seem to be more sensative to heat and or direct sun. I think the pure size and weight seeds out there have been selected for these qualities if the people doing the selecting knew it or not. These qualities were probably part of the reasons these plants grew larger pumpkins over the years.

I've always heard that the 801 genes were heat tollerant. I have heard that from some very good growers on this site. I bought a seed just so that I could cross it into my plants next year.

Anyone have any comments on that before that would make me change my plans?
